Just tonight I heard Amber's first real laughs. Vera has been telling me that she is laughing now and again, but I haven't heard but one syllable until today. I was changing her diaper and when I was putting the cream on I said, "put a little cream on yer butt!" and she thought that was pretty funny. I tickled her butt and said it a couple more times, and she laughed each time, and it gave me the giggles too, but I didn't want to wear it out.

She was just the cheeriest baby for the first couple months but this last month there have been a lot of grumpy times. We suspect teething perhaps, and definitely some tummy troubles.

She's learning to use her voice a little but not really in control of it. She really wants to grab things, but doesn't have the dexterity, so she mostly just thrashes around. I think it frustrates her sometimes. She also likes to chew on things a lot, especially fingers and my arm skin. She's really interested in flashing lights and sounds, so for her third month birthday I bought her a... push buttons and flash colored lights and sounds thing. She really seems to be trying to play with it, but with limited success.
