She's now just over six months old. She's been really fun, laughs a lot, and the things she thinks are funny... are very funny. Like, Vera had her in the baby bjorn (a carrier where she's on her front, facing forward) and was pulling weeds, and Amber thought it was hilarious very time she'd pull out a weed, making that roots-ripping sound. She often finds Theo (the golden retriever) funny.
She smiles a lot, with a big open mouth. She smiles whenever she sees me, if we haven't been together in a while, and when she sees her mom, the same.
Her biggest adventure lately has been food; at six months, she can start eating things, and she is totally into it. She's eating everything - we haven't found anything she won't eat. Even things she doesn't seem to like, she still eats. And weird things - green olives, sour apples, no problem.
Just a couple days ago we gave her water for the first time, and she went absolutely nuts for it, like she's been thirsty all her life and she finally figured out how to satisfy that craving. She just couldn't get enough. We fed it to her on a spoon but soon we got a sippy cup and she just gulps it down until she almost chokes.
She can sit up now, quite stably, but every once in a while she topples over if there isn't something (or somebody) holding her up. We have a circular pillow for her, she can sit in that a long time. Somebody has to put her in the sitting position though, she doesn't know how to get herself there. She can sort of roll over too - we've seen her do it enough that we think she knows approximately how it's done, she just doesn't have that much interest in it. When she's on her front, she just gets freaked out and usually cries. For the same reason she hasn't made much progress toward crawling. She can almost keep herself standing, though, if I put her where she's holding on to something.
She does not like to sleep. Like, you see pictures of babies that just fell asleep in the middle of doing something, and she never does that, not even once. Never goes to sleep willingly at all. When she gets sleepy, she just gets grumpy, and even then she won't lie down or cuddle, she just cries and squirms and eventually sleep overcomes her. |
