After the dust settles, they hear the Lizardfolk calling out from behind the wall. He uses a common greeting in Draconic, which is neither familiar nor aggressive, the kind of greeting you'd use when passing somebody on the road, or when you don't know whether they are friendly and would like to find out. The adventurers do not answer.
Instead, Black Barry sneaks over to the doorway to see what is going on. The doorway used to hold a heavy door that would slide on iron tracks, suspended from above, but it has long since fallen apart. The Lizarfolk hides behind the wall just past the door, nursing his wounds and peeking through the doorway trying to see who is there, but of course, unable to see anybody because they are invisible. Barry ventures into the further room to see what else is there.
Beyond the doorway is another large room, more like the wall is dividing what was once a great hall, with about two-thirds in front and one-third behind. There is an octagonal area in the middle, like a smaller room that sits on the intersection of the two parts of the room. There is a door into the inner room, on the northwestern side, which appears in good repair. In the rear part of the great hall, three Guard Drakes mill around as if on patrol.
Returning to the group, who still await at the entrance to the great hall, Barry suggests that they talk to the Lizardfolk. Elfo is the only one who speaks Draconic, so he calls out with the same greeting the Lizardfolk used earlier. "Who goes there?" the Lizardfolk replies.
"Just a traveler, passing through", answers Elfo.
"A traveler passing through throwing fireballs?"
"Yes" answers Elfo casually, as if there should be nothing surprising about that.
"Are you a friend of the dragonfolk?"
"In particular ways, yes. If threatened, no."
"You killed one of their Bullywugs."
"Was that Bullywug your friend?"
The Lizardfolk laughs. "No, no Bullywug is my friend."
"Is this a Lizardfolk fortress?"
"No, we just work here."
"Who do you work for?"
"The cult, you know, of the dragon". Elfo thinks he detects a strange inflection in the Lizardfolks' answer; Draconic has a voice that can be used for quoting something someone else said, that is also used for sarcasm, like to say something but like you're not really saying it.
"Are you loyal to them?" Elfo asks.
"Of course," says the Lizardfolk, leaning heavily into the sarcasm. "Are you?"
