The invisible party follows the wall around to the southeast. Around the east side they find three large longhouses, woven of reeds bound into thick bundles, of an ingeniously intricate design, very well-crafted, but of natural materials. As they are watching, several lizardfolk emerge from the longhouses, 5 of them in two loose groups, and walk to the north into the shrubbery. The adventurers follow them, on a short trail through a small thicket, then into a clearing and around to the east. There are two more longhouses of the same type they saw before, and in front of them, a fire. A dozen or so lizardfolk are cooking what appears to be wild game on sticks over the fire.
From there, the adventurers can see that a high wall, running primarily north-south, rises beyond a moat to the east. The wall has a corner so that another part of it is directly to the south of them, and in that part of the wall, they can see an open doorway, so they sneak down there and peek through the door. It is dark, so Hooflepoof and Leosin can't see anything, but Elfo and Barry have darkvision, so they get a pretty good look.
Inside is a very muddy place, stinking of Bullywugs. The mud appears to be a couple of feet deep, and 10 Bullywugs and 6 Giant Frogs are wallowing in the mud, apparently as they prefer, and gurgling to each other in their strange primitive language. Planks are set atop the mud, forming a trail to provide access for those not inclined to wade through the mud. The planks lead to another open doorway leading to the east, and a stairway leading up.
"You're starting to shimmer," whispers Leosin to Elfo and Barry. "The invisibility will wear off soon. We had better go."
They head back to the riverbank, and downstream to where their group is camped. |
