The adventurers awaken in the morning, and eat their breakfast cold, rather than start a fire that might give away their location. Hooflepoof skips breakfast altogether. Karat sneaks off for a quiet pee in the woods.

While the morning is still early, they make their way into Greenest, avoiding big roads which might present an opportunity for an ambush. Trying not to be too noticeable, they head over to the Old Greenest Inn, where Kaspar has been caring for their horses, cart, wolves, and corgi. Kaspar is awake and friendly, and though he didn't really say if he would charge them or not (given everything they had done for the town), Hooflepoof and Karat give him 5 GP, a rather generous offering for a couple days' board for the animals. He is very appreciative, and offers them a nice hot breakfast in return.

They all sit down in the dining room and he serves them an excellent breakfast including eggs, bacon, and coffee. As he's serving them, Kaspar mentions "You should be careful, there have been some suspicious culty-looking guys lurking around the town this morning."

"Which way did they go?" asks Elfo, but Kaspar doesn't know. Hooflepoof asks if they were looking for something, but Kaspar doesn't know that either.

"They weren't going anywhere in particular, just slinking around here and there. Yeah, maybe keeping an eye out for someone, or something. Maybe looking for you? I don't know."

Karat asks Kaspar if he has seen Talis, and he says yes, that she has been coming to work in the evenings as usual. "She's evil," says Hooflepoof, and they tell him what they know about her working with the cult. "She's my best waitress," says Kaspar.

Bilbo asks if Kaspar knows Ontharr Frume, of Elturel, but he's never heard of him.

After everybody is served, Kaspar disappears for a few minutes, and returns to report that their cart and ponies are all ready to go, waiting outside the door. As they are getting up from the breakfast table, Hooflepoof happens to glance out the window and sees someone in a cultist uniform, standing inconspicuously on the opposite side of the street. He points this out to Bilbo and Karat, and they look out the window, but they don't see anybody. Hooflepoof can't see him either; he must have slunk away.

Everybody expects confrontation, and readies their weapons as they make their way to the front door. Hooflepoof confidently throws the door open and steps outside, leading with his shortsword, and sees a half dozen or so cultists scatter around the corner. The others follow not too far behind, but too late to see the cultists. "There were cultists," says Hooflepoof quickly, "they went that way," pointing his shortsword toward the street, around the corner of the next building. Elfo runs up to the street, but the cultists have disappeared among the various townsfolk going about their morning business.

So they load up into the cart, making a nest for the egg with boxes and some spare hay, and cover it with a blanket to avoid suspicion. They take the cart and horses over to the Townmaster's Hall. Governor Nighthill is there, and greets them warmly.

Elfo, Hooflepoof, Bilbo, and Black Barry present him with the loot that they found in the cave. He says that the rightful owners will be very happy to have it back, and rewards them with gold in measure to the amount of loot that they brought back. They are also able to answer most of the questions that Nighthill originally asked about the raiders' camp: where they were located, approximately how many raiders there are, who their leaders are (or were, in this case). They still aren't sure of their motives, or where they intend to strike next, but they are able to assure Nighthill that almost all of the raiders have moved on, so Greenest is unlikely to be in further danger.

Governor Nighthill is very glad to hear this, and rewards them each 250 GP, as promised, for the information.
