Secret Bathroom Meeting? | | fritz | May 11, 2006 | It was 1993, and Steve, Misha, Keta and myself were traveling in Prague. It seems that Steve and I accidentally interrupted a secret meeting. Was it the planning of a coup? An underworld discussion of a mafia-style assassination? A citywide drug-dissemination deal? We may never know.
We were standing outside a public men's room, which was down under the ground in a small public square. A few people walked by, but the street was not crowded. We stood outside the stairs to the bathroom for a couple of minutes, because the girls were going to split off temporarily from the boys, and we were negotiating where and when we would meet back together. We didn't see anyone go into or come out of the bathroom.
Once we had the details arranged, the girls went off in their direction, and Steve and I descended the stairs to the men's room. We didn't expect to see anyone, as it seemed a not very populated area.
We were surprised to find the bathroom entirely full. A large urinal trough occupied three walls of the room, and along each wall stood a line of men, facing the urinals. There must have been twenty or thirty men in there!
They said nothing, but several of them moved over to make room for me, and a few others for Steve. We finished our business before any of them did, and went back up the stairs. Those of you that are men will not be surprised that I neglected to notice whether any of them were actually "doing" anything, if you know what I mean.
After we exited back out into the square, we lurked around for a few minutes to see if anyone would enter or exit. Nobody did. |
