I'm butchering our (in real life, well-beloved) Golden Retriever Theo with a large knife. I've cut off several large sections of him already, from his flanks and sides, apparently as meat, or to use them for something. Vera passes by and acknowledges without much concern, as if this is just what obviously needs to be done. Theo seems oblivious, just playing with another dog as if nothing is going on, but it seems to me that it probably hurts a lot, and pretty soon I should just slit his throat to put an end to the pain. He's now just laying, with his chin on the floor as I consider this. I think I will check with Vera one more time before I make that final cut; he has wounds now that are probably recoverable, but if I cut his throat it will be too late. Yeah apparently his body is useful for something, but he has other charms, doesn't he? He's very good-looking, and a nice dog.
