I ask Vera for my fork, which is on some sort of shelf behind her shoulder. "Just behind your left clavicle", I say, and she responds all flustered, like she has no idea what I'm saying. But to me it's like she just isn't listening to the words, and I repeat, "just behind your left clavicle". Finally I reach back there and grab the fork, but as Vera points out, there are three. I say that yes, there are three, but there was no other way to distinguish them, and I thought she would know which one I was using because it's dirty.
